50 Random Songs

Over at Gleeman's site, he posted his second annual iPod shuffle challenge. I remember after the first one, people ripped on him for having Al Green on there. I was quick to side with Aaron in likeing the Reverend, and we decided that his appearance on the Daily Show the night before was some sort of very odd coincidence.

Anyway, since I'm stuck in Des Moines without a Twins broadcast (to be more general, I don't even have TV right now, so the Twins are definately out of the question), I don't really have much to say about the team, so I'm posting my own version. Only I don't own an iPod, so this is my iTunes shuffle challenge, with stupid commentary along the way.

  1. Valentine - Old 97's
  2. Don't Speak - No Doubt
  3. Wherever You Will Go - The Calling
  4. Hummingbird - Wilco
  5. Small Town - John Mellencamp. While seeing Ricky Bobby, I turned to my friend Captain and said "I think if you had a pet cougar, it'd be manditory for you to name it 'Mellencamp'."
  6. Constellations - Jack Johnson
  7. I Have But One Heart - The Godfather Soundtrack
  8. Hello - Oasis. The best band in the world, hands down, end of discussion. If you haven't seen the "Behind the Music" (Parts 1, 2, 3, 4) for Oasis, you don't know what your missing.
  9. Pencil Thin Mustache - Jimmy Buffett
  10. Supersonic - Oasis.
  11. Rising of the Moon - Spailpin. Nice Irish music from a band whose name means "migrant worker" in Ireland
  12. Seeds of Love - The Clancy Brothers. Did I mention I'm Irish?
  13. "Chapter 5: Food, Glorious Food" - Italian For Dummies.
  14. The Deepest Blues are Black - Foo Fighters
  15. Whisper - The Nadas. A great band from here in the Des Moines area. My friends Sara! and Lindsey work for them. Check them out, you'll like them, you've got my word on it.
  16. Next 100 Years - Bon Jovi
  17. "Chapter 15: Planning a Trip" - Italian For Dummies. I have to take these out of the main playlist. Is that what that little checkmark is for?
  18. Slieve Gallon Braes - Will Millar. Irish instrumentalist.
  19. Via Chicago - Wilco
  20. We Want the Airwaves - The Ramones
  21. Holiday - Jimmy Buffett. Thanks to my parents, I'm a parrothead.
  22. Conversations - Finger Eleven
  23. Tin Man - America
  24. Zombie Nation Remix - Kernkraft 4000. Really, the only reason to have techno music is because it's the most awesomest soccer song ever. Be in a stadium where everyone is jumping and yelling along, it's great.
  25. Price to Pay - Staind
  26. Somebody Put Something in my Drink - The Ramones
  27. Fare Thee Well Inniskillen - The Clancy Brothers
  28. Layla (Acoustic) - Eric Clapton
  29. Are You Gonna Go My Way - Lenny Kravitz
  30. Brothaz - Mr. Lif. I didn't even know I had this. I've never heard it before in my life. Not a fan *Delete*
  31. Married with Children - Oasis. See the bit on "I Love 1996" on Oasis. Hilarious. (Starts at 5:15 into it)
  32. Rapper's Delight - Sugarhill Gang. I know all 15 minutes. One of the all-time groundbreaking songs.
  33. Island Girl - Elton John
  34. Dust In The Wind - Kansas
  35. Cautioneers - Jimmy Eat World
  36. Lazy Gun - Jet
  37. Black Coffee - Less Than Jake
  38. The Lonely 1 - Wilco
  39. Baby, I Love Your Way - Peter Frampton
  40. Move On - Jet
  41. Russian Navy Hymn - The Hunt For Red October
  42. Such Great Heights - The Postal Service
  43. Do You Remember Rock 'n' Roll Radio? - The Ramones
  44. Process - Less Than Jake
  45. Who's the Blonde Stranger? - Jimmy Buffett
  46. A Praise Chorus - Jimmy Eat World
  47. A Horse With No Name - America
  48. If I Could - Jack Johnson
  49. I Want You to Want Me - Cheap Trick. The best love song of all time, even if no one understands what he says in the middle.
  50. (Da Le) Yaleo - Santana
The verdict - this is not so random. It makes no mention of my country (Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, et. al. None of this new-fangled pop-country stuff) or my 70's and 80's music, and little mention of my rap. I don't feel this is an accurate representation of my musical tastes.
